How This Calculator Works

Every CPU generation ships closer to its thermal and frequency ceiling than the last. Intel's 14th Gen and AMD's Zen 5 already boost aggressively out of the box, leaving less manual overclocking headroom than older architectures like Zen 3 or 12th Gen Alder Lake.

This calculator uses real-world overclocking data from community benchmarks, review testing, and silicon lottery distributions to estimate what you can expect — not best-case lab numbers. The key variables are your CPU's architectural headroom, your cooling capacity, and how aggressive you're willing to push voltage.

Core Formula:
Gain% = Base_OC% × Cooling_Factor × (Aggression / 10)
Base_OC% is the average achievable overclock for that architecture with quality silicon. Cooling_Factor ranges from 0.4 (stock) to 1.0 (custom loop). Aggression scales linearly from 1 (safe daily) to 10 (pushing limits).

Temperature delta is estimated from TDP increase and cooling solution efficiency, validated against Hardware Unboxed and Gamers Nexus thermal testing methodology. Stability ratings reflect the probability of achieving that overclock with standard voltage tuning — not extreme overclocking with delidding or exotic cooling.

The verdict combines all factors into a simple recommendation: whether the performance gain justifies the time, thermal cost, and risk for your specific setup and use case. Data sources include Intel ARK specifications, AMD product pages, and aggregated community results from HWBOT and r/overclocking (2024–2025).
